Mandie Danks, Scotland Medical Detection Dogs

Mandie Danks is one of our inspirational Guest Speakers who will be speaking to you about Medical Detection Dogs and the cutting edge work that this association does.

Mandie joined Medical Detection Dogs in 2015 as their Scottish Instructor. This responsible role includes working with puppies starting on their journey to become Medical Alert Dogs, clients at various stages of the application process as well as providing training  and support to those placed with a Medical Alert Assistance Dog. She also represents Medical Detection Dogs at various events throughout Scotland and supports volunteers who are involved with the charity as socialisers, speakers and fundraisers.

Her career in assistance dogs started in 2000 when she joined Hearing Dogs for Deaf People before moving to Canine Partners in 2008 once she had relocated to Scotland. She has also run her own training business offering reward based training for those looking to learn more about their canine companions and in addition to her work as a trainer Mandie has a strong interest in Animal Healing, being a registered Bach Flower Remedy practitioner and Reiki practitioner.

About Medical Detection Dogs.

Medical Detection Dogs train dogs to detect the odours of human disease. It is the forefront of this vital research into the fight against cancer and helping people with life threatening diseases. The associations Bio Detection Dogs are trained to find the odour of diseases, such as cancer, in samples such as urine, breath and swabs.Read more about the Bio Detection Dogs here.

Their Medical Alert Assistance Dogs are trained to detect minute changes in an individual's personal odour triggered by their disease and alert them to an impending medical event. the association receives no government funding for the work and rely entirely on donations from the public and trusts.
